Male reproductive system and hydrocele.

Men reach their sexual peak between the ages of 16 and 18, shortly after puberty. Since they are able to produce sperm continuously from puberty onwards, men remain fertile for longer period than women ; some men can become father at the age of 70 or older.

Sperm are produced in the tsetse, and during the intercourse, the penis delivers them into the female reproductive system. The male reproductive system also manufactures sex hormones that are essential for sperm production and for sexual development during puberty.

PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT

During the puberty, the penis, scrotum, and testes enlarge, and pubic hair grows. Hair also appear in the face and other parts of body. Rapid growth occurs, the muscles develop, and the voice deepens.  

DISORDERS OF TESTES, SCROTUM

Most of the male reproductive system- the penis,scrotum, and testes- is outside the abdomen. Consequently, symptoms of disorders in the structures are usually obvious at the early stage. Such symptoms should not be ignored out of embarrassment since most genital disorders can be cured by prompt treatment.

HYDROCELE

A hydrocele is the fluid filled sac surrounding the testicle that results in swelling of the scrotum. It is common in newborns and occurs during development of the baby. In older people, this can develop from inflammation or injury to the scrotum. An abnormal accumulation of fluid between the double-layered membrane that surrounds the testis know as hydrocele.

The double - layered membrane that surrounds each testis normally contains a small amount of fluid. If an excessive amount of fluid accumulates with in this membrane, a swelling called hydrocele will result. This condition is common in infant boys and elderly men.

In most case, there is no apparent case, but hydroceles have been linked to infections, inflammation,or injury to the testis. Rarely, a hydrocele that develops in adulthood is due to the presence of a tumours in the testis.

A hydrocele usually develops as a visible swellings in the scrotum. There may be a heavy, dragging sensation in the scrotum due to its increasing size, but the swelling is not normally painful.
